Different approaches to embedding numeracy
There are many different approaches to embedding numeracy within other learning and developing numeracy skills in a way which is relevant to different contexts and learner groups. This section has ideas and resources for planning and delivering embedded and contextualised numeracy and case studies from providers.
The importance of an embedded approach is highlighted in the Government’s refreshed Skills for Life strategy, Skills for Life: Changing lives (DIUS, 2009), This states that by 2011 all Skills Funding Agency-funded providers will offer embedded literacy, language and numeracy where appropriate.
The Embedded Learning Starter Kit gives guidance and information about embedded delivery.

Embedded Numeracy: background
This clarifies the term ‘embedded’ and links to reports and case studies.
Embedded Numeracy: research and resources
This includes research studies in engineering, construction and horticulture.
Planning and models for joint working
Working together to develop numeracy gives examples of how and why providers have developed opportunities for different teams to work together to deliver numeracy. It includes links to five case studies and the support materials from a variety of settings: adult education, family learning, vocational courses within FE and work with employers.
