Section 1c. What are the benefits of flexible learning?

Flexible models of delivery can:

  • allow individuals to learn where and when it suits them;
  • offer employers training that can accommodate business demands and work patterns;
  • be economically viable for the provider and make best use of available staff;
  • increase participation in learning;
  • meet the access needs of a wide range of learners;
  • make the best use of accommodation;
  • develop more adaptable and responsive staff;
  • build learners’ confidence and independence;
  • respond to the preferred learning styles of different learners;
  • increase retention and attendance;
  • improve achievement and success rates; and
  • enable staff within your own organisation to gain new knowledge and skills.

See what providers and learners have to say about the benefits of flexible learning.

Comfort is the best way to describe online learning; no-one is pressurising me in a classroom, asking me to give an answer to the class.

I log on (which is straightforward enough), sit at home and teach myself, by using simple instruction, and the video lessons, I can sit and re-watch over and over again

The tutors are always there at the end of an email if I need them and if I get really stuck I can arrange a tutorial. It’s great!’
